SUMMARY:The Marketing Career Clinic: Jack of All Trades or Master of One - Should You Specialise or Stay a Generalist?
DESCRIPTION:“Niche down” is the advice everyone gives\, and it sounds sensible right up until you try to do it. Choosing one thing means closing the door on several others\, and most marketers got good at a lot of things because the job demanded it\, not because they couldn’t commit. \nSo which one actually builds a career? In this Marketing Career Clinic\, Olivia is joined by three marketers who’ve answered that question in completely different ways: Rachel Randall\, who works across strategy\, brand and go-to-market for B2B clients\, and Judith Rafferty and Margaret Ward\, who’ve both built businesses around a single specialism. \nWe’ll get into what each path actually costs\, how reversible the decision is\, and what’s changing now that AI is doing a passable version of a lot of tactical work. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nMeet the panel:\n\nRachel Randall is co-managing partner at Coussins Associates\, a marketing consultancy that acts as an outsourced marketing team for B2B organisations across the UK\, Europe and beyond. Her clients include private-equity backed groups\, global manufacturers\, and international healthcare and distribution businesses. Rachel works at the point where strategy meets reality\, defining direction and strengthening positioning while making sure good ideas actually get executed well. She leads client relationships across strategy\, brand\, communications and go-to-market\, and spends much of her time as a sounding board to senior stakeholders while staying close to the detail with delivery teams. \nJudith Rafferty is a copywriter who helps businesses replace tired\, tangled copy with words that do a commercial job. She’s spent 30+ years in sales and marketing across hospitality\, venues\, restaurants and events\, working in-house\, agency side and alongside senior teams. That frontline sales background is where her specialism came from\, and it shows in the work: website copy\, email sequences\, blogs and LinkedIn content built to convert rather than just read nicely. She’s a good person to ask what it takes to build a reputation for one thing and stay known for it. \nMargaret Ward is founder and email strategist behind cc’d consultancy\, an email marketing agency that helps e-commerce brands turn their email list into their most valuable asset. She and her team have worked with fashion\, wellness\, homeware and gifting brands\, designing high-converting emails that still feel human. Margaret also co-runs email marketing and CRM meet-ups across the UK\, creating spaces for the industry to connect and learn from each other. GiM members may recognise her from her session on whether email marketing is boring\, or whether we’re just doing it wrong \n \n\nWe’ll cover:\n\nWhere the pressure to specialise actually comes from\, and whether “generalist” has quietly become a dirty word in marketing\nWhat specialising closes off\, not just what it opens up\nHow to tell the difference between a specialism worth committing to and something you’re simply good at right now\nWhether AI makes breadth more valuable or less\, and where the safe ground is now\nHow to position yourself on a CV or a profile when your real strength is doing a bit of everything well\n\nThis is a career clinic\, so the last 15 minutes are yours. Bring the dilemma you’re actually stuck on. \nYou’ll leave with a much clearer sense of which path fits where you are right now\, and the reassurance that whichever you pick\, it isn’t permanent. \n \n \n \nHere’s how to tune in:\nAdd this event to your calendar and you will be automatically notified when the webinar is about to start! SUMMARY:Launch → Paid Social Foundations: Campaigns That Actually Work with Ellie McGuigan
DESCRIPTION:A lot of wasted ad spend isn’t caused by bad creative or a small budget. It’s caused by decisions made in the first ten minutes of building a campaign\, before a single pound has gone out the door. \nThis session covers the setup properly: how to structure campaigns across Meta (and where TikTok and LinkedIn differ)\, what to actually do about targeting now that the platforms make most of those calls for you\, and the settings that quietly drain budget when nobody’s watching. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nMeet the host:\n\nEllie McGuigan is a paid social strategist with over five years of brand-side experience at two of the UK’s largest charities\, where she’s built and scaled campaigns across both B2B and B2C in purpose-driven environments. Having navigated the confusion of paid social firsthand early in her career\, she’s made it her mission to make the channel make sense for others. Ellie is an active voice in the marketing community — speaking and writing about platform updates\, algorithmic shifts\, and what they mean for practitioners on the ground.\n \n\nWhat we’ll cover:\n\nHow to structure campaigns\, ad sets and ads so the platform can learn properly and your results are readable\nWhat targeting looks like in practice now automation has taken over most of it\, and where your input still genuinely matters\nThe setup mistakes that waste spend before you’ve had a chance to optimise anything\n\n \n \n \n \nHere’s how to tune in:\nAdd this event to your calendar and you will be automatically notified when the webinar is about to start! When you’re ready to join\, log into the membership and click the Join Now button below.
